An account is not required to participate in the primarily philosophical discussions, but hey, why not join the club for all of them, like the most heated of the debates in the members-only section.

So, for those that took the personality quiz today, you got a little insight on your personality. But, what if you didn't like some parts. What if you wanted to change? Is it possible? Also, what do you think a "personality" is?

We did a chapter on personality in AP psyche; it was pretty interesting. Basically, it said that it's really hard to agree on what personality is, though it's generally thought of as a person's patterns of behavior and that it's shaped by both our genetics and our experiences. That being said, it would probably be accurate to say we have the ability to change our personality to a certain extent but we lack the power to radically alter our very nature. Like, you can easily make a gentleman out of a pauper because our financial status is something that we can change, and it's not determined by our genetics. In contrast, it would probably be very hard to turn a naturally introverted person into an extrovert if that person had very introverted parents.

I'm a bit reluctant to bring this up, but this talk about personality being inherent or taught raises the question of whether or not sexual orientation is something that people have control over. Personally, I don't think people can choose who they're attracted to, but tell me if you think I'm wrong.
